There are two main species of cockroaches found in the UK - German Cockroach (Blattella germanica) and the Oriental Cockroach (Blatta orientalis). Both are mostly nocturnal. They spend the day hiding in cracks and crevices around areas such as sinks, drains, cookers, skirting boards, airing cupboards, service ducts and fridge motor compartments.
Signs of cockroach infestation may include a smell, small spindle shaped droppings (similar to mouse droppings, but usually smaller) and dead cockroach bodies.
Cockroaches can infect foodstuffs with a range of diseases. They also render food inedible by transferring dirt and filth from their bodies and feet onto food and food preparation surfaces.
Cockroaches can spread diseases such as dysentery, gastroenteritis, typhoid and polio. Cockroaches and their faeces can cause allergic reactions, especially amongst sensitive people.
It Has 2 Be Done provides a cockroach treatment service for both residential and commercial premises.
Cockroaches usually gain access to domestic premises as a result of human activity. They are often carried on furniture, baggage and even in clothing. In multi-storey premises or blocks of flats, cockroaches may spread along heating or water pipes, drains or from neighbouring premises.
They can utilise narrow cracks and crevices as harbourages, and will remain hidden in these during the day, coming out in darkness to feed. This nocturnal habit means that, except in heavy infestations they will not usually be apparent during the hours of daylight. For every 1 cockroach that is seen, there are 200 not seen.
Cockroach control is not a simple matter. Their habits and their size mean that there can be a very widespread infestation that is not recognised early on.
Nymphs can be very small, and as cockroaches are omnivorous they will often eat other dead cockroaches and moultings, so masking the evidence of infestation
Left untreated, cockroaches may spread all over the home and to adjacent properties therefore, it is most important to deal with the matter at the earliest opportunity. The only really effective method of treatment is to treat all parts of the infested building with suitable insecticides. This work should only be carried out by professional pest control operatives. In order that a pest control programme is properly effective, it is important that the following steps are taken before, during and after treatment:
Female cockroaches lay their eggs within egg capsules (known as oothecae), which resemble small brown purses.
The female Oriental cockroach can produce up to five egg capsules. The capsules are 12mm in length and each contain up to sixteen eggs, which will hatch between six and twelve weeks later.
The female German cockroach can produce four to eight capsules at monthly intervals. The 6mm long egg capsules are smaller than the Oriental cockroach, but contain up to thirty eggs.
The eggs hatch into nymphs, which look similar to adults but are smaller. They grow into adults via several moults. This usually occurs 5-10 times during its development. The development from egg to adult can take between 6 to 18 months depending mainly on temperature. The adult has a life expectancy of around 26 weeks.
Control of cockroaches in domestic premises is what we do.
Getting rid of cockroaches is difficult because their eggs are resistant to poisons and may lay dormant for months before hatching. It is therefore recommended that treatment is only carried out by professional pest control operatives.
THE BAIT WE USE
The bait we use at It Has 2 Be Done Ltd is a cockroach gel based on a new active ingredient, which has a novel mode of action. Proven to give tertiary kill.
Its tertiary control kills 54 cockroaches for every one cockroach that eats the bait.
Normally, molecular degradation reduces the efficacy of insecticides. Research has shown that the opposite is true with the gel we use, the metabolic activation process actually increases its effectiveness.
REMEMBER THAT IF YOU SEE A COCKROACH, DONT THINK “ I MAY HAVE A PROBLEM”,
YOU DO HAVE A PROBLEM, FOR EVERY 1 THAT YOU SEE, THERE ARE 200 YOU DO NOT SEE.
